So... we started off another bright sunny day in Bangkok after breakie in the hotel. Breakie was nice. American breakfast was served.
Either a formal or a relaxing meal, Residence Rajtaevee has more restaurants and choices of cuisine from all over the world with famous international gourmets' recommendation than most of the comparative sized hotels in Thailand. And I just found out (from the web) that Crescendo is one of Bangkok's voted best restaurants where " east meets west " is perfectly blended. The specialties awaited you to experience are Italian, traditional Thai, international as well as house's specially created cuisine.
Breakfast is good and basically during the six days stay here, We had a different selections of food.
So this is how the hotel look like during the day... Fresh air.. Bright sun... But still a lil cooling... Well.. it was Winter in Bangkok that time... :P
The weather eventually blent in with the Xmas theme and decors which was still there even though it's ady January.
I'll definitely gonna stay here again for my nx visit which I dunno when, hopefully nx year around this time again??? Hehehe...
While waiting for Jacky to come and pick us... I got too bored so I play around with my camera... and I found a new way of camwhoring.... Hehehe... I just love those pics... :P
So.. our first visit... Wat Traimit - Temple of the Golden Buddha. The Temple of the Golden Buddha is considered as one of the must see temples in Bangkok. It is known for its famous Golden Buddha, now more than 700 years old.
At the entrance, there is a big temple in the middle and the ticket office is on your left. We bought the ticket for 20B but is seems like nobody was controlling the entrance. Climbed a flight of stairs at the left up to the small pavillion where the Golden Buddha is kept.
It was undiscovered until the 1950s, but then an outer layer of plaster began to peel away, exposing the solid gold icon beneath! Apparently, after this discovery, lots of other Buddha icons had their outer layers peeled away, but no others were found to be hiding solid gold figures. The temple itself has nothing special to look at from the outside. It's rather a small temple.
As well as the large and impressive centerpiece, there is also a host of smaller Buddhas with fake gold coverings in the pavilion. Next to the golden Buddha there is a counter selling postcards and other golden Buddha related souvenirs.
Nx stop, the famous Grand Palace. On the way... we passed by China Town and Flower market...
See how they display their gold... Pretty scary isn't it? It's like a market selling/hanging vege rather den jewelry store.
At the flower market, I can see lotsa vendors offered various shaped objects and figures they had made from the fresh flowers.
I knew all the above... So I brought along my scarf to cover myself coz I don normally bring long pants or thick tees (normally I only bring singlets) when I go travel... The guard stuck-to-the-rule-too-much that the wont let me through ... stupid guard ... he should be more lenient. He asked me to rent an ugly flowerly shirt from the vendor there which cost me 50B and 50B for deposit. Ugly shirt oso need deposit! And make sure u remember how the vendor look like else u wont be able to even get ur deposit back! Damn! I bet those guards allied with the vendors to get commission!
I know I know... it's very HOT... But wat to do?? I don wanna be a fashion victim... :P Image is very important to me... Hahahaaha... (John... I know u definitely agree with this statement ey???)
The combined compound is open 8.30am to 3.30pm everyday. Cost is 200B (free for locals). Tix includes admission to Vimanmek Mansion and Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall (that can be used within seven days of your Grand Palace visit), both in the Dusit area of the city, the Coin Museum in the compound, and so-so free guidebook. The entrance to the compound is on Na Phra Lan road, on the north side.
We were lucky that we went in for free due to some Royal ceremony goin on for the late Princess Galyani Vadhana, the elder sister of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings in Bangkok. It served as the official residence of the king of Thailand from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. After the death of King Ananda Mahidol in the Baromphiman Palace, King Bhumibol moved the official royal residence to Chitralada Palace. Construction of the palace complex began in 1782, during the reign of Rama I.
The palace complex sits on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. The other approaches to the palace are protected by a defensive wall of 1,900 metres in length, which encloses an area of 218,400 square metres. Further out from the wall is a canal, which was also created for defensive purposes, making the area surrounding the palace an island, known as Rattana Kosin.
The last temple of the day... Wat Pho - The Reclining Buddha. Wat Pho or Wat Phra Chetuphon as it is generally known to the Thais, is mainly famous for the huge Reclining Buddha statue it houses. It is located behind the splendid Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
The highly impressive gold plated reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, and is designed to illustrate the passing of the Buddha into nirvana.
The Buddha's feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl illustrations of 108 auspicious laksanas (characteristics) of the Buddha.
A small amount of donations buys you a small cup full of coins and along the spine of Wat Po's reclining Buddha, you'll find a long row of black begging bowls (108 of them), corresponding to the 108 auspicious characteristics of the Buddha. Toss some coins in each (takes about 2 min) and you're all filled with luck and good karma and help the monks keep up the temple. It makes a nice sound too while tossing the coins into the bowls. Bluek.
Wat Pho is open daily between 8am to 5pm. The admission fee is 20B.
Outside, the grounds contain 91 chedis (stupas or mounds), four wihaans (halls), and a bot (the central shrine in a Buddhist temple). Most impressive, aside from the Reclining Buddha, are the four main chedis dedicated to the first four Chakri kings and, nearby, the library. Wat Pho is among the most photogenic of all the wats in Bangkok.
Wat Pho is also famous as Thailand's first university, and is center for traditional Thai masage - the rich, famous and powerful have all been known to come here. Inscribed on stone in the walls of Wat Pho are all that was known about Thai massage datin.
I actually wanted to try traditional massage there but time doesn't allow us to do so... We don have much time left... It's getting late... half a day were gone... there are few more places for us to visit before we called it a day.
Wat Pho is open daily between 8am to 5pm. The admission fee is 20B.
After Wat Pho... we went over to the Biggest Teak House in the World. Vinmamek Royal Mansion.Located on Ratchawithi Road behind the National Assembly, Vimanmek Royal Mansion is the world's largest building made entirely of golden teak. Removed from Ko Sichang in Chonburi province, it was rebuilt in the Dusit Palace in 1900 by the command of King Rama V. It was recently renovated by HM Queen Sirikit, and made into a museum paying homage to the late King.
As well as antique furniture, there's glassware, porcelain, old photographs and memorabilia from the late King's reign (1868 - 1910). Many rooms currently maintain the atmosphere of the past. A guided tour is provided to visitors. Most of the building in the same compound are now used as museums. The outstanding one is Abhisek Dusit Hall, which exhibits HM Queen Sirikit's collection of handicraft masterpieces created by rural people. The other displays of various items and art objects including HM King Bhumibol's photography, paraphernalia of rank and portraits, ancient cloth, clocks, and royal carriages. Parts of Vimanmek are still used for various state
functions and receptions for visiting royalty when the buildings are closed to the public.
Admission to the Vimanmek Mansion museum is 100B, which entitles you to enter every building and gallery. We're not allow to explore the Teak house on our own. There will be a English guide bringing you around... explaining to u all the history and antique that they have.
No shorts or sleeveless shirts and skirts must be at least knee-length or you won't be allowed in.No pic were taken as we're not allow to bring camera or even camera phone in. But I still see some Mat Salleh taking pictures in the garden... I wonder how they smuggled their camera in. Hmmm....
Had a quick lunch there before we proceed to the nx destination... which is my favourite... Chatuchak Market!!! Woohoo...
But before that... Jacky drove us passed another mansion for a few more photo shooting... Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall.
We din managed to visit the palace. Just snapped a few shots n left. If I'm not mistaken, the Throne Hall was closed for some ceremony for the King's Sister's death.
Now here.. Chatuchak Weekend Market! Woohoo... Time for shopping...
Two of the most popular sections are Pets and Plants. Whilst it may not be practical for tourists to purchase anything from here, the range of exotic flowers, orchids, lucky bamboos etc are a great photo opportunity. The majority of plant vendors can be found directly next to Gate 3.
First... we dropped by at the Pet section. You can find all sorts of live animals for sale.
This is for u guys, Sylvie and Gabby.... Cant bring them back as souvenirs... so just a snapshot for u guys... :P
The pet section (areas 9, 11, 13, and 15) draws a big crowd, selling everything from birds, dogs and cats, to more exotic creatures. There is a separate aquarium section at the Mo Chit end of the market.
I din know it's legal to sell turtles in the market?? Hmmm....
Only 20B per cup... guess Thais really love sweet things... They even mixed it with white sugar to add the sweetness. I asked for less sugar... Still... I prefer natural sweetness... :P
Guess they preferred to take a nap rather than jumping up and down to impress prospective buyer such as this one here...
It's diff from our char kueh here... It's crispy... and a lil chewy... overall... NAIS! Only 20B per packet. And they're served with Chilli Sauce...
Ok I know I sound Bimbo... But I seriously think if they bite when they grow bigger... Hmmm....
Aren't they cute??? I never really seen one until tat day... :P
Only 5B - 10B each... super cheap!
It looks so... Retarded! hahaha...
Din try them.. coz they look so... SWEET! And I don really like sweet stuff...
Porky pork... Man I just L O V E pork!!! These pork looked so appetizing... Too bad we din manage to try it coz we had eaten too many other food while shopping.
After Chatuchak, Jacky brought us to a plaz nearby our hotel for dinner. I dunno what's tat plaz called but I only remember that there's Spa center nx to it... Shud have gotten his name from Jacky so we could go there again nx time... The food there is really nice! And they're selling Laos delicacies.
Jacky did all the ordering for us coz we don understand a single word from the menu. No description or picture were given. He ordered 4 dishes for us... All were super duper yummy... I still remember how it taste like... Thinking of it makes my tummy roaring now... Sooo hungry!!!
It's so nice that we cant help but to order another plate...
I dunno what is this called... but it's the best dish among all this three dishes... Tasted a bit spicy and soury.... Dipping sticky rice with the gravy already tasted so good... wat's more to say the beef... it's so tender and juicy. Yum yum...
